Arpita Shah is a visual artist and arts community facilitator based in Scotland, UK. She works between photography and film, exploring themes around culture and identity. Arpita has completed residencies at Street Level Photoworks, Ankur Arts and Tramway, Scotland. She was commissioned by Creative Scotland to develop new work for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, and exhibits internationally, most recently in India, France and the USA.

As an India-born artist based in Scotland, Arpita spent an earlier part of her life living between India, Ireland and the Middle East before settling in the U.K. This experience is reflected in her practice, which often focuses on the notion of home, belonging and shifting cultural identities. Collaborating with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures, she creates work, which explores the complexities inherent in the identity for communities and individuals who are culturally displaced between lands.

Arpita is currently developing a new series of work titled ‘Nalini’ which supported by Creative Scotland. Nalini is being developed across India, Kenya and UK, exploring Arpita’s personal family history of migration and memories between these three countries.
