MICHAEL SOI’S ‘RECENT WORKS’
(26th January -11th February 2017)
Kuona Trust invites you to its first event of 2017 – An Exhibition & Sale of recent works by artist Michael Soi at the center of visual arts’ gallery in Likoni Close off Dennis Pritt Road, Kilimani.
The exhibition opens on Thursday 26th January 2017 at 6.00pm and features the artist’s recent paintings for sale at discounted prices. 50% of proceeds will go towards supporting Kuona Trust currently having financial challenges.
Soi’s work provides a photographic diary of Nairobi and is a satirical commentary of social, economic and political trends. He explores relationships – intergenerational, interracial or generally what he calls the economics of love, commercial sex work and popular culture within the context of globalization & consumerism.
A hallmark of his art is his unique vision and highly distinctive style usually brightly-coloured paintings with black outlines that are illustrative in nature and are both playful and biting. They are informed by a strong tradition of cartoonists whose works have satirized Kenyan society since independence – often bravely poking fun at the political establishment.
He has participated in numerous workshops & residencies; exhibited widely locally and internationally; and has a huge following of collectors and enthusiasts globally.
“This exhibition is my small bit attempt to support an organization that literally made me into the creative I am today… come let’s raise as much as we can for our beloved KT” – Michael Soi.
The exhibition ends on 11th February 2017.
Entry is free.
