Kenya Art Fair 2016

Kenya Art Fair is Kenya’s premier art fair focused on contemporary arts from Kenya and the East African region. Now in its 3rd year, the fair continues to strengthen this position by presenting the finest of contemporary African art alongside memorable exhibitions and ground-breaking initiatives. The Kenya Art Fair plays a key role in supporting the growing contemporary arts landscape in the East African region and provides a space for leading artists, galleries, collectors, writers, innovators, thinkers and art lovers to congregate. The Kenya Art Fair also welcomes local and international galleries and in particular those that have an interest or link to East African Contemporary Art.

Participating institutions, galleries, artists and art collectives include : Circle Art Agency, Diani Beach Art Gallery,the Art Space, the Godown Art Centre, Nairobi Bag Factory (Michael Soi), Polka Dot art gallery,Railway Gallery,Banana Hill Art Gallery, Fundi Art Gallery, Umoja Gallery (UG), Karibu Gallery (UG), Njovu Gallery (UG)  Brush Tu, Liege Gallery, Fek Fek Gallery (UG),Photizo Gallery, Dust Depo,Wajukuu Art Project, Cyrus Kabiru Art ,Samuel Githui, Kamal Shah,Gerladine Robarts, Yassir Ali, Adam Baharaddin, Moses Nyawanda, Peter Kenyanya, Patrick Nganga, Academy of Graphic Technology and the Kenya Copyright Board.

Happening alongside this will be interactive art talks on issues around the visual arts facilitated by various stake holders, special site specific installations, a books area with exciting new art books, and a display of the best submissions from the Wasanii and Grafitti Art competition.

The Wasanii Exhibition

This is an exciting curated space for emerging artists and a select few established independent artists who have no representation from galleries or art spaces. This particular space is organized and managed by Kuona Trust.

Graffiti Art Competition

This competition aims at highlighting and emphasizing the importance of art in public spaces. This year, we award graffiti artists who work in public space to spread messages of peace and cohesion. Awards for the Art Competition will also be presented during the Gala Opening Night

Art Talks

These sessions are educational segments of the Fair that provide a full schedule of daily seminars focused on the Visual arts practice from various stakeholders on topics ranging on art collection and buying, government policy, art education, creative writing, current art trends and all insider info. All programs are free with admission and run for approximately 1 -2 hours per session in the seminar room within the Fair.

The Art Talk schedule is as below:

Friday 11th:10.00am- 12.00 pm Preservation & Collection of Contemporary Art.

Friday 11th :2.00pm- 4.00 pm Creative Economy with a Focus on Visual Arts

Saturday 12th : 10.00am- 12.00pm  Graffiti Art Movement in Kenya

Saturday 12th : 2.00pm- 4.00pm Critic and writing on visual arts.

Sunday 13th : 12.00pm- 2.30pm Contemporary Curatorial practice and trends in East Africa.
