Lukwago Saad, Safina Kimbokota and Kasagga Jude present the results of their 3 month residency at Brush Tu Art Studio. The AIRBrush exhibition and residency is sponsored by the Royal Danish Embassy in Nairobi.
Lukwago Saad ‘s current body of works is inspired by how beings relate with each other and the environment they are in. The work is a result of him trying to understand the many aspects of his life and indeed the lives of others… He has for the last couple of months been looking at similarities and differences between places, people, cultures, name it.
Safina Kimbokota on the other hand, a contemporary sculptor associated with Nafasi Art Space in Tanzania and a Master of Arts student at University of Dar-es-Salaam, showcases metal sculptures that she has skillfully mixed with fabric. Her figurines highlight social pressures facing young women in Africa thereby encouraging campaigns against harmful skin creams and health-care rights.
Kasagga Jude is a Ugandan artist that has been active for the last one and a half decades, first as a teaching artist and more recently as a full time professional artist. He is trained as a painter, illustrator and sculptor although he is better known a painter at the moment. His peculiar style of painting that has been associated with the Surrealist movement has stamped his signature as a painter with a penchant for depicting subjects in the other world.
