ART50 ARTIST PROFILE:SANE WADU

Sane Wadu is considered as one of the pioneers of art in Kenya.

Born in 1954 on the outskirts of Nairobi, Sane Wadu began his painting career in 1983 using household paints, plastic sheets and clothing.This was later replaced by oils on canvas as his career took shape.

Wadu’s paintings portray a mix of both rural and urban life.

He is a founder member of Ngecha Artists’ Association, formed to provide moral and technical support to local artists.

He is world renowned and has exhibited in many galleries and museums, including the Museum fur Volkerkunde in Frankfurt and the British Museum.

He and his wife, Eunice Wadu (also an artist) run the Sane Wadu Art Trust in Naivasha,Kenya.

Sane Wadu will be one of the panelists in this year’s open day event happening on the 13th of December 2013.
