MEET THE ARTIST:TRESOR MALAYA

Kuona Trust warmly welcomes Tresor Malaya our new international resident artist .

Tresor Munyemi, a visual artist and performer, is described as being one of the most innovative artists of his generation from Lubumbashi, DRC.

He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Lubumbashi and has participated in many workshops to refine his artistic pratise. We had a chat with him and this is what he had to say:

What inspires you as an artist?

I am inspired alot by my enviroment.

What do you hope to get out of your residency program at Kuona?

I hope to build on my style as an artist , learn new skills and develop a diverse body of work.With the availability to a range of materials, I believe this will be possible.

What do you like to do in your free time ?

I am a social person. I like to meet people and  explore new places .I am very excited about joining Kuona Trust’s residency Programme  and getting to know the Nairobi art scene.

What do you plan to do after your residency at Kenya ?

I will be traveling to Paris for an exhibition where some of my work is being exhibited.

The artist will have an introductory session on Friday, 27th June at Kuona Trust.This  session is meant to familiarize the public with the artist’s work and also allow them to ask questions about his process.Visitors will also enjoy a special performance by the artist, portraying the various political similarities and differences between Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
